Zashiki-warashi, sometimes also called zashiki bokko, are spirit-like beings in Japanese folklore. They are said to be yokai that live in parlors or storage rooms. Zashiki-warashi can be considered cheeky pranksters and child-like. Upon the visitation or sighting of a Zashiki-warashi, it is believed that the household would be blessed with good fortune and luck.

These beings symbolize life in a way that, in order to recieve blessings, opportunities, and prosperity - one has to go through the pranks and tests of life. If we are able to see the hardships in our life and willingly embrace it, it becomes an indicator of good things awaiting.
